Area of Applicability

Standardization of application-neutral cabling-systems has begun in 1991. 1993 a draft for international standard  called ISO/IEC 11801 has been written. Corresponding publication has been carried out at 1995. That standard, which is mostly identical to the standard EN 50173, is valid within Europe. It determines the area of applicability for area extensions up to 3 km and for office areas up to 1 million square meters from 50 up to 50.000 end-devices. That standard supports voice, data, text, picture and video applications and therefore contains configuration guidelines, implementation, output and conformity. Furthermore it is a guideline on how to set up wiring-systems, to classify type of cables as well as all face-to-face connections (Link level).

ISO/IEC 11801 is valid world wide
